Starting on June19th @ 6pm CST and lasting for 72 hours, we will play through the Metal Gear series in order of storyline live on webcam. No charities are involved in this marathon but that won’t stop us from giving away great prizes! Our next marathon for charity will be the Final Fantasy marathon starting on July 17th for ACT Today (Autism)
June 19th not only marks the start of the Metal Gear marathon, but also the grand opening of TheSpeedGamer’s Store! Profit from the store will go towards server and website fees, prizes, ect.
Confirmed games to be played (more games will be added, be sure to check back!)
In order (except Twin Snakes):
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Metal Gear Ghost Babel
Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Metal Gear Solid: Twins Snakes
If we finish the series before the 72 hours expire, which is expected, we will play through the games again until the 72 hours is filled. If you are not familiar with the way we do our marathons, here’s a brief description. A live video feed can be seen here on our website, www.thespeedgamers.com, with a commentary cam complementing the gameplay. A chat will accompany the video so you communicate with us and our other viewers.
Note: Cutscenes will not be skipped, we feel this is the best way to represent the series.

Marathon News
Both MGS and Twin Snakes? I’m surprised. Perhaps even more surprising is the MSX games not being on the initial draft. Of course it’s not final, but I would’ve expected the first two games to be there before a remake of a game that’s going to be played anyway.
You’re going to be doing prizes during this marathon even though there won’t be donations? sesdfiselkjldshdrg1! You people never cease to amaze me. So what will determine who gets prizes?
You’re going to play the games with the cutscenes in under 72 hours? Zomfg
I like that you’re playing them in (mostly) storyline order, so we can see the epic saga unfold from beginning to end.
Can’t wait!
I don’t think you guys will be able to finish all those games (if you play on hard/expert) in under 72 hours. But, if you can prove me wrong, props and 10,000 internets.
Ghost Babel isn’t actually canon, it happens after the first MSX game in place of Metal Gear 2, kind of like Snake’s Revenge, except Kojima was actually involved in it’s production.
you guys rock
Yeah, Ghost Babel isn’t canon. I appreciate that Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake would be hard games to play quickly, especially if you haven’t played them several times. Hell, I’ve written guides for both of them with maps (guide for the second one coming soon), played through both of them on multiple occasions, and I still need help. The Solid series is much easier to commit to memory.
72 hours? WITH cutscenes? You’ll be lucky if you get up to MGS4 within that time.
Bon chance!
Yeah, Ghost Babel needs to be struck from that list. That and Portable Ops is missing, too. That is considered canon.
The way I see it, this is more about putting on a good show for the people than it is sticking to games that are 100% canon. A lot of people aren’t familiar with some of those games (maybe for good reason? I honestly wouldn’t know, Metal Gear never has been my thing), so it’ll be fun to show something a little different than what is to be expected.
Well, considering it says “we will play through the Metal Gear series in order of storyline”, it’s important to have the games that are in the actual storyline.
Ghost Babel would fall in place in the same timeline order as MGS1. We do not have the means to capture any psp games at the time.
@SDB: That’s fair. Ghost Babel is a great game, and few people will have actually seen it. Consider maybe playing the first two Metal Gear games through the Subsistence version of Metal Gear Solid 3, as well.
Also, would totally love a Silent Hill marathon in the future.
Yeah, no, Ghost Babel doesn’t fall into any time-line. Especially not the same one as MGS1. It’s a non-canon sequel to Metal Gear for the MSX.
